Jen O’Connell joined Taylor Porter in 2023 as a Partner. She began her career as in-house counsel for a large workers’ compensation insurance carrier after clerking for the carrier during law school. Jen assisted with corporate matters and litigation. During her first year of practice, she regularly tried cases and argued before the Louisiana Courts of Appeal. These early opportunities shaped Jen into a confident and proactive attorney. One year later, Jen joined private practice wherein she quickly earned the trust of her clients.
Jen was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 2012 and Texas Bar in 2019. She prides herself on securing efficient resolutions for legal disputes or favorable defense verdicts when necessary. In the casualty context, Jen’s practice includes trucking and transportation work, workers’ compensation defense, general liability and industrial accidents. She is TWIC certified and has in-depth experience with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act. Jen also represents clients in commercial litigation involving contract disputes and land-use. She also routinely assists clients with commercial insurance coverage matters, defense and indemnity disputes and appellate work. She has successfully litigated matters in Louisiana’s state and federal courts and has enjoyed numerous successes before juries, bench trials, and the Louisiana Supreme Court. Jen secured admission to the Texas Bar at the request of her clients and has also litigated matters before Texas state and federal courts and the Texas Supreme Court.
Outside of litigation, Jen advises companies at the corporate level regarding risk management, policies and procedures for workers’ compensation claims and industrial accidents. Jen also assists clients with OSHA investigations.
When Jen is not in the courtroom, she is in the boardrooms of various local charitable organizations. She is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Baton Rouge Mental Health Association and former chair of the Boys & Girls Club Gala. Jen has also been a fitness instructor since she was 18 years old and enjoys leading group fitness classes in the local community.
