Totes de Joie Creates Care Packages for Cancer Patients at Mary Bird Perkins, Woman’s Hospital

Taylor Porter attorneys, staff, and summer law clerks all pitched in to pack 100 care packages for nonprofit Totes de Joie to deliver to local cancer patients undergoing treatment at Mary Bird Perkins and Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Taylor Porter Partner Kiki Bergeron founded the nonprofit Totes de Joie in 2020. Bergeron, a cancer survivor, has led the organization’s efforts to create and deliver more than 600 “totes of joy” care packages to date to cancer patients throughout Baton Rouge and Lafayette undergoing treatment. These “totes of joy” packages include everything from practical items like unscented hand lotion, socks, and kleenex to inspirational items like prayer cards and hand-written notes of encouragement. “The infusion centers are not joyful places. For that reason, we deliver the tote bags to local hospitals so they can distribute directly to the patients actively getting treatment. We hope our care packages make the patients feel loved and supported. Our only mission is to put a smile on their faces and bring them joy,” Bergeron said.

In March 2021, Bergeron was featured in the Woman’s Hospital blog, “Fighting Cancer with Positivity and Joy,” highlighting the success of her nonprofit, Totes de Joie.

At Taylor Porter, Bergeron’s practice includes construction law, general commercial litigation, insurance coverage, insurance litigation, and appeals. She is active in the Baton Rouge community, volunteering for various pro bono projects with the Baton Rouge Bar Association, and formerly serving as a member of the BRBA’s Belly Up at the Bar and Law Day committees. She formerly served for three years as a board member for The Foundation for Historical Louisiana, and she is a founding board member of the Baton Rouge Youth Hockey Association.
